Through experimentation with different materials, colors, and possibilities, “Cambodian Mosaics” explores and illustrates Sothea’s vision of his country. Combining photography and painting, he aims to blend the real with the imaginary. Sothea first assembled photomontages depicting several locations, themes, and motifs representative of Cambodia. He then used these collages as the models for paintings in acrylic. The paintings were exhibited alongside their respective photomontages during the 2012 Phnom Penh Photo Festival at Top Art Gallery, with the support of Mr. Christian Caujolle.
