“Happy Together” was Sothea’s first collection as an artist. Tiring of his office-based architectural job, he began to experiment with visual depictions of his own personal experiences. After the owner of a new hotel-resort in Siem Reap saw Sothea’s first painting in late 2009, he commissioned six others to decorate the hotel’s new suites. With this confirmation of his developing skills, Sothea resigned from his job to concentrate fully on painting. In mid-2010, Meta House, the German-Cambodian Cultural Center in Phnom Penh, displayed the results of this first foray into painting in an exhibition of this series.
